AFLC organised ‘Digital Financial Literacy for All’ Seminar at Odisha capital Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: “Digital financial literacy and financial inclusion is the major focus today to make India gradually a ‘less cash’ society by 2020. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is pioneering with back-end technologies to fulfil the dream and promoting the mobile based transaction practices across the country” said Shri Abhaya Prasad Hota, Managing Director and CEO, NPCI in a Seminar here.

The state level program was organized at Jayadev Bhawan on Monday by Abhyutthana Financial Learning Centre (AFLC), a forum initiated by a group of senior banking professionals who are instrumental in promoting larger public awareness on financial literacy and financial inclusion since 2014. OdishaLIVE, the first web channel network of Odisha was the Digital Media Partner for the Seminar.

Addressing the gathering Shri Hota mentioned that after demonetization in last year, India is now heading towards a more inclusive society to adopt the digital transactions in everyday life. Several measures including the JAM trinity – Jan Dhan Accounts with Rupay Cards, Adhar Based Payment System and Mobile Banking are the new mantra by the Reserve Bank of India and the Central Govt. too. NPCI is working closely towards another BTT trinity – Bharat Bill Payment System, Toll Gate Payment at national Highways and Transactions in cities & towns, which will change the entire scenario of digital financial inclusion in the country soon.

“It’s a great moment for Odisha to host Shri Hota and to know more about how NPCI is engaged and planning to make India a ‘less cash’ society through financial literacy. In Odisha, we are consistently working with students, teachers, youth, media and others relevant to make our people understand and practice the benefit of digital transactions though using mobile based technologies and debit/ credit cards for even every smaller transactions” said Shri Dasarathi Mishra, Founder and Managing Partner, AFLC.

Chief Guest Shri Aurobindo Behera, IAS (Retd.) appealed to practice more and more digital transactions using mobile banking, e-banking etc. Guest of Honour Shri Nilambar Rath, Founder Editor and CEO, OdishaLIVE opined that greater awareness generation would be possible by promoting the benefits of using digital transaction modes through various social media platforms along with other media. This will help to attract large number of youth and people from different walks of life in both urban and rural geography who are active in web and social media, he added.

Among others, Shri D. K. Jena, Dept. of Finance, Govt. of Odisha, Prof. D. V. Ramana, XIMB, Shri K. R. Das, RBI, Bhubaneswar and Shri Siladitya Chaoudhury, former GM, RBI have graced the occasion. The AFLC Souvenir 2017 was released, the website of AFLC and the newly established Abhyutthana School of Financial Inclusion, Research and Education (ASFIRE) were launched by the guests during the seminar. The program was attended by a number of students from various Business Schools, bankers, representatives from Insurance sectors, MSME, MFIs and government.

Centurion University Commemorates The 3rd International Yoga Day At Centurion School Of Yoga

Bhubaneswar: On 21st June 2017, when the whole world celebrates the 3rd International Yoga Day, Centurion University and Gram Tarang commemorates it with grandeur.

The programme, lasting about an hour was conducted under the supervision of chief mentor, Mr. Siba Kripa Bose. The event included of the benefits of yoga and demonstration of the important asanas, a talk on and postures. The programme was arranged to raise awareness of yoga in all its aspects, both for the uninitiated as well as practitioners.

Yoga, which is a discipline developed and practiced since pre-Vedic times in India, has gradually found recognition worldwide as an exceptionally effective method to improve the health of body, mind and sprit. The International Yoga Day, has been established under the aegis of the United Nations.

Prof. Haribandhu Panda, Vice Chancellor, Centurion University said “Yoga helps us to dissolve the veil that covers our True self. Therefore, in the end, you will see that we are only uncovering that which is already there. That is the true state of Yoga. Let each day, and each breath here at the International Yoga Day and beyond be dedicated towards achieving such awakening.”

Dr. Supriya Pattanayak, Dy. Vice Chancellor Centurion University, Mr. Abhinav Madan, Managing Director, Gram Tarang, Prof. Jagannath Padhi Director, CUTM-Jatni Campus, were present for the event.

Students along with faculty members of the University had turned out on the Campus at Bhubaneswar to celebrate the 3rd International Yoga Day. The event has been successfully orchestrated by Mr. Siba Kripa Bose, who is leading the School of Yoga.

National Safety Day celebrated at NTPC Talcher Kaniha

National Safety Day was celebrated at NTPC Talcher Super Thermal Power Station celebrated on March 4,2017. Chief Guest of the occasion, Shri Debasis Sarkar Group General Manager (Talcher Kaniha) on this occasion unfurled the safety flag.

Later Safety pledge was administered by GGM & senior officials in english,hindi & oriya to all employees & security personnel. Thereafter two minutes of silence was observed in memory of those who have sacrificed their lives during construction, erection, operation & maintenance activities of the station.

Shri Sarkar addressing the gathering said “safety is on one’s hand, every individual working in the station should be safety conscious in order to make the power station a “zero accident zone”.

He said one should not feel that safety is issue related safety department, it starts with each individual who can avoid accidents and mishaps in day to day operation of the plant with safety measures. He added every employee and labourer working in the station should share their experiences on safety in order strengthen safety measures in the station.

He shared numerous initiatives taken by the power station i.e compulsory use of crash helmets by employees and start of whattsup group to monitor safety issues with fast action on daily basis.

Safety Officer Shri S K Pradhan Das read the annual safety report and briefed the various initiatives taken at the station level to enhance safety for the workers and employees.

Safety banners, posters and slogans displayed at various strategic locations to spread the awareness of safety messages.

Safety awards were awarded to best three agencies.30 best safety conscious workers of the station from various agencies for annual maintenance and overhauling work were awarded, in addition, six best CISF fire personnel for contributing towards plant fire safety activities were also awarded during the celebration. On this occasion Shri L D Sahoo,GM(O&M),Shri Anil Jana,GM(FM) & Shri A K Ojha,GM,(HR) ,senior officials & representatives of union & association were present on the occasion.

Coal Secretary visits country’s largest Talcher Coalfields of MCL

Talcher: Mr Susheel Kumar , Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Coal, on Thursday (today) visited Talcher Coalfields, country’s largest dry fuel reserve in Odisha, and took stock of situation in coal mining operations of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL).
Mr A K Jha, Chairman and Managing Director, Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) received Mr Kumar on his arrival at Bhubaneswar Airport early today. The Secretary was also accompanied by his wife Mrs Poonam Kumar, who was received by Dr Nisha Thakur, first lady of MCL and president Jagriti Mahila Mandal.
Mr Kumar, who was on his maiden visit to Odisha as Coal Secretary, visited MCL’s biggest coal mining project Bhubaneshwari OCP (open cast project) — the third biggest coal mine in the country producing 25 million tonne per annum –, Ananta OCP and Jagannath OCP, where he was briefed on mining conditions and project plan.
The Secretary also had a brief interaction with Mr J P Singh, Director (Technical/Operations), Mr K K Parida, Director (Finance), Mr L N Mishra, Director (Personnel), Mr Munawar Khursheed, IRPF, Chief Vigilance Officer and Mr OP Singh, Director (Technical/Projects and Planning) before visiting mines in Talcher.
MCL, which is building a 500 bedded state-of-the-art medial institute in Talcher at an estimated cost of Rs 492 crore, had opened a 21-kms-long dedicated coal corridor for coal carrying vehicles, reducing substantially the impact of air pollution due to dust in the peripheral residential areas.
Meanwhile, Mrs Poonam Kumar unveiled the statues of Dr A P J Abdul Kalam, former President of India and Swami Vivekananda at MCL DAV School, in the presence of president Jagriti Mahila Mandal Dr Nisha Thakur, vice-presidents Ms Madhoo Mishra and Ms Padamja Singh along with president Annaya Mahila Mandal Ms Sushila Gupta.
Ms Kumar also interacted with special children of Nakul Chandra Special School for Blind, Deaf and Dumb, Talcher.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates 2nd edition of Raisina Dialogue

s2017011798053New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered the 2nd Raisina Dialogue’s inaugural address in front of a global audience of over 250 international leaders, representatives and thinkers in the national capital on Tuesday.

He not only gave insight into tapping global opportunities and tackling challenges but also India’s perspective and vision.

He also pin-pointed Pakistan fostering of terrorism without mincing any words despite India’s repeated friendly overtures saying if it wants peace with India, it must give up terrorism.

India has consistently maintained that the entire world needs to work together to combat terrorism and radicalisation.

PM Modi took this a step ahead and said efforts in this direction have ensured international isolation of terror exporter Pakistan.

Prime Minister Modi elaborated how India’s policy of deepening neighbourhood and near neighbourhood external ties with several countries.

On China, he said its not unnatural for two large neighbouring powers to have differences but both need to show respect for each-others’ core concerns and interests.

PM Modi also referred to long-standing strategic ties with Russia and how he frequently connects with President Vladimir Putin.

He also said that he had spoken to US President-Elect Donald Trump and agreed to build up gains of strategic partnership.

Among other global figures, the raisina dialogue is witnessing the participation of Nepalese Foreign Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat, former Afghan President Hamid Karzai, former Australia PM Kevin Rudd and Bangladesh Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina’s International Affairs Advisor Gauhar Rizvi.

The next two days will see the dialogue take up several issues related to global opportunities and challenges where representatives from 65 are participating.

The first edition was held in March last year by the Ministry of External Affairs along with the Observer Research Foundation.

The theme of the 2nd edition is ‘The New Normal: Multilateralism and Multipolarity’.

It is India’s flagship geo-political event which has become a much awaited think fest in the global calendar in very little time.

Odisha Geological Service Association organizing 26th Annual general Body Meeting

Bhubaneswar: The State of Odisha is endowed with huge mineral resources like Bauxite, Chromite, Iron, Manganese, Graphite, Coal, Limestone, Dolomite and lot more. The geoscientists of state Directorate of Geology play a vital role in exploring the mineral resources and are toiling hard in the far flung inaccessible areas of the state, searching for new mineral deposits and making assessment of the already found ones. Geoscientists of this Directorate are instrumental in the proving of 500 million tonnes of iron ore, 1000 million tonnes of bauxite, 31 million tonnes of heavy minerals in the beach sands along the Orissa coast, 18 million tonnes of chromite ore in the Sukinda Valley, Assessment 9,602 million tonnes of thermal grade coal, Limestone reserves of 602 million tonnes.. this list will be very long. A diamondiferous lamproite pipe rock has been discovered in the Kalmidadar area of Nuapada district through persistent exploration efforts. Potential satellite bodies of kimberlite/ lamproite have been discovered around Pokhanpadar, Supuli, Bharuamunda, Kathiwadi and Arkholi etc. in the same district. 28 Gem bearing tracts have been identified through UNDP collaboration in the Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bolangir, Boudh, Subarnapur, Anugul and Sambalpur districts. Today Odisha is the only state in the country to have the advantage of high resolution airborne geophysical survey data over most of its hard rock terrain. Land use, land cover and coastal geomorphology studies have been taken up along the entire Odisha coast of 486km by Officers of this Directorate.

Over the time, the responsibilities of the Officers of the Directorate of Geology has increased manifold. The geoscientists are trying hard to convert previously done G3/G4 level of exploration to G2 level and delineating blocks for auction as per the directive of newly amended MMD&R Act. The geoscientists have also taken up the challenge and acted as authorised officers to approve mining plans for minor minerals. Till date more than five hundred mining plans have been scrutinized and approved by these geoscientists, which will definitely enhance the government exchequer and will ensure a systematic mining of these resources.

Odisha Geological Service Association, OGSA established since 1990 by the officers in the ‘Geological Survey and Exploration Wing’ of ‘Odisha Mining and Geology Service’ Cadre and was subsequently accorded recognition in the year 1998. The members of OGSA constitute the Technical Officers of the Directorate of Geology, Odisha including Geologists, Geophysicists, Petrologists, DDGs, JDGs, JDGs L-I and will now include the newly created post of Additional Director of Geology. The idea behind forming of such an association was to promote solidarity of profession and to diffuse useful knowledge and goodwill among its members

The OGSA is organizing its 26th Annual general Body Meeting on 18th September,2016. Inordinate delay in promotion, junior class-I status from entry level, insurance coverage for field officers, enhancement of Compensatory Allowance (CA) are some of the basic demands of the association.

Team of students involved in building satellite ‘Sathyabamasat’ calls on PM

s2016071986236New Delhi: A team of students involved in building satellite “Sathyabamasat” called on Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in New Delhi, today. They were accompanied by Vice-Chancellor of Sathyabama University, Dr. B. Sheela Rani.

The Prime Minister appreciated the efforts of the team in building a satellite to collect data on greenhouse gases.

“Sathyabamasat” was one of the twenty satellites launched by ISRO using launch vehicle PSLV-C34 on June 22, 2016.

Tata Steel Odisha Utsav 2016 begins with Art-In-Industry Camp

tataartBhubaneswar: Tata Steel Art-In-Industry, an art camp cum exhibition and the inaugural event of Tata Steel Odisha Utsav 2016, was inaugurated at Lalit Kala Akademi Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar today. The event was inaugurated by Mr Debi Prasad Mishra, Honb’le Minister, Industries, School & Mass Education, Govt of Odisha, in the presence of renowned artist and native of Odisha, Mr Jatin Das, Mr P K Jena, Principal Secretary, Water Resources, Govt of Odisha and Mr Chanakya Chaudhary, Group Director, Corporate Communication & Regulatory Affairs, Tata Steel.

The art camp is aimed at promoting and celebrating the pursuit of art by amateurs, professionals and budding young students by bring everyone on a common platform to learn, discuss and practice art.

Sixteen renowned artists of India will showcase their masterpiece in this three days long camp. The highlights of the camp include workshop for art students, interaction with artists. The participation of local artists in the camp will allow the community to enjoy art from a specific region, opening a window to the way of life of the people of their own region. Besides, school children chosen from across the state through Tata Steel Inter School Art Competition are also participating in the camp and will be learning from the masters and showcasing their talents. 50 art college students of Odisha are also participating in an art competition being organized on the occasion and will be part of the camp.

Lauding Tata Steel for its efforts towards promoting art and culture, Mr Debi Prasad Mishra said, “We are happy to see that the leaders in making steel are also focusing on supporting art and literature by organizing such events. In Odisha, we have various beautiful forms of art be it Pattachitra, tribal art or any other. Corporates like Tata Steel should patron such artists along with government so that they can reach new heights in the field of art at national and international level”.

Mr Jatin Das appealed to the participants to preserve the tradition of excellence in art and culture of this great land. Addressing the artists and the art lovers, he spoke highly about of artistic grandeur of Odisha and promised continued support of Tata Steel to such initiatives in the state in future. Speaking on the occasion Mr Pradeep Kumar Jena lauded the efforts of Tata Steel in providing a congenial platform for the promotion of art by supporting such exhibition and camps.

Mr Chanakya Chaudhury of Tata Steel reiterated the company’s longstanding commitment for strengthening the rich cultural tradition of the state through various initiatives including support to artists. Art-In Industry brings together renowned artists from all over the country at a common platform to share their talent and vivid imagination on canvas and display for the purpose of sharing knowledge, he added.

The concept of Art-in-Industry dates back to 1943 when Tata Steel was one of the prize donors of an exhibition and sale of art in the JJ School of Art, Mumbai, wherein artists were invited to compete for prizes and scholarships. The aim even then was not merely to be able to sell the entries or acquire the paintings, but also to bring the talent of lesser known artists to the notice of leading industrialists and patrons of art.
