Odisha: International Conference on Solar Energy Photovoltaic at KIIT University

Bhubaneswar: International Conference on Solar Energy Photovoltaic, organized by the School of Electronics Engineering of KIIT University, was inaugurated by Mr. Arun Ku. Sahoo, Hon’ble Minister of Energy, Information & Public Relations, Govt. of Odisha at KIIT University on 19th December 2012.
Inaugurating the conference, Mr. Sahoo said that the generation of solar energy is expensive and scientists and researchers should try hard to make it affordable. Renewable energy sources like solar energy have great importance as they are not finite like natural fuels such as coal and petroleum. In order to promote renewable sources of energy, Govt. of Odisha has decided to establish a Green Energy Corporation soon, Mr. Sahoo informed.
In his presidential address Prof. P. P. Mathur, Vice Chancellor, KIIT University said, it is an honour to host such an important international conference in KIIT. Focusing on the theme of the conference, he said presently India as well as other countries need energy security, which only solar energy can provide. Padmashree Prof. A. K. Beura, Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur, Howrah, who is among the keynote speakers said, there should be networking to make this technology successful. There is a need to speed up the development of appropriate technology, he stressed.
The goal for this conference is to provide a well-organized international forum to review and stimulate progress from both research institutes and industry. The conferences will cover the entire spectrum of photovoltaics from materials to systems. This conference will have a special session on “Plasmonics and Nanostructured Solar Cells” on 20th Dec 2012.
Prof. U. P. Singh, Organising Secretary & Faculty, KIIT gave a brief introduction of the conference. Prof. A. K. Sen, Director, School of Electronics Engineering, KIIT also spoke on the occasion. Prof A. K. Ray of KIIT proposed the vote of thanks. Delegates from and aboard India including the Netherlands, ESTONIA, Australia, Switzerland, USA participated in the international conference.
