Odisha govt reduces Forest Development Tax on kendu leaf from 16 to 2%

leafffBhubaneswar: In a significant development the state government reduces Forest Development Tax on kendu leaf from 16 to 2%. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Kendu Leaves Advisory Committee on Thursday. The meeting was chaired by the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
This will benefit nine lakh kendu leaf pluckers in the state. Addressing media after the media CM Patnaik said that profit from the reduction in the forest development tax on kendu leaves sales will be distributed among kendu leaf pluckers equally benefiting around 9 lakh of them in the state.
The Odisha government earns around Rs 420 crore from kendu leaf trade. The state government will Rs 100 crore among kendu leaf pluckers from the kendu leaf trade profit.
The state government will also develop the service condition of seasoned employees associate with kendu leaf trade. The meeting attended by Chief Secretary JK Mohapatra, Development Commissioner Injeti Srinivas, Principal Secretary of Finance Department and members of Kendu Leaf Pluckers Union.
